Stakeholder Engagement and Strategic Planning
that centers racial justice

Our partnership

Good Influence helped United Way of Greater Los Angeles articulate and operationalize a theory of change that centers racial justice. The theory of change grounds and guides the organization’s strategic plan and commitment to racial equity and justice, as well as major decision making around grants, advocacy, communications, and governance. Working with the CEO, senior leaders, and board members, Good Influence also integrated principles of organizing and relationship-based fundraising to deepen engagement and giving with businesses across Los Angeles County.

our process and deliverables

  • Conducted stakeholder interviews with employees as well as community, philanthropic, and business leaders to understand perspectives on the organization’s role, superpower, kryptonite, and relationship to racial justice

  • Articulated a theory of change that will serve as a guiding framework for how the organization approaches systemic change

  • Led a taskforce of business leaders to develop a set of pilot programs for engaging their employees in UWGLA’s theory of change, commitment to racial justice, and fundraising

  • Designed and facilitated a series of board retreats to help the board center racial justice in its evolution and governance

Good Influence designed and facilitated a board retreat series to help board members learn from community input, walk through data on structural racism and poverty, engage in conversations about their own relationships to power and privilege, and learn from each other’s journeys.
